Why study at Hochschule Hannover - University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HsH)?

Teaching and research, practice orientation, further education and internationality characterize the efficiency of the Hochschule Hannover – the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hannover. The complexity of scientific contacts and activities of our university shall be introduced briefly in this summary.

With around 10.000 students the Hochschule Hannover is the second largest university in Hanover, the capital of the federal state of Lower Saxony. Institutionalized in 1971 from various educational precursors – the oldest dating back to the year 1791 – the Hochschule Hannover offers a particularly wide range of subjects in five faculties.

Around 650 women and men are working at the Hochschule Hannover, which makes the university an important employer in the region, the budget comprising nearly 45 million Euro per annum – not regarding third-party funds.

The Hochschule Hannover stands out due to short length of study and an intensive practice orientation in the teaching. That is why our graduates meet with high acceptance in industry. Two work placements that have been included in the study programmes in 1990 ensure that students on the one hand gain first-hand experience on the job and on the other hand have the chance to establish important contacts in companies. A very special feature among the subjects are the dual courses which combine on-the-job training with university study.

By offering a wide range of course guidance and advisory services for all students, the Hochschule Hannover pursues one of its priority projectives: A well reflected choice of study and continuous information about the details of the courses are certain to lead to both, a greater success and a shorter length of studies. There are various tutorials for all students and special link programmes in the departments to ensure that first-year students are integrated easily. These programmes are also meant to increase the number of female students and to help to improve the integration of students from foreign countries.

Research and development, as well as the transfer of knowledge and technology at the Hochschule Hannover always focus on practical solutions. Concentrating these activities, the research centre AUBIOS was institutionalized in the year 2000. Technology transfer ensures that technology and know-how within the Hochschule Hannover is made available to companies and other organisations. The AGiP (Working Group for Innovative Projects) is an Hochschul Hannover-institution of the federal state of Lower Saxony and promotes respective activities.

The Hochschule Hannover encourages and supports international mobility of its students to keep up with the growing globalisation of the economy. Cooperative agreements with more than 200 partner institutions worldwide provide opportunities for students to enhance their language and intercultural skills and eventually increase their professional chances both at home and abroad.

Information is given pride of place at the Hochschule Hannover. All of the institutions at the Hochschule Hannover contribute to this important aspect of our overall efficiency and – last but not least – the press office promotes external and internal information.
