Occupational safety and health protection

[Translate to English:] © HsH/abPhotography

The Occupational Safety department at Hochschule Hannover is the main point of contact for all matters concerning occupational safety, health protection, and fire safety.

Safety engineers, occupational health and safety specialists, company doctors, and fire safety officers advise and support, in particular, the university management, responsible faculty members, organisational units, staff, and employee representatives on all questions related to occupational safety as well as health and fire protection.

The safety engineers and fire safety officers maintain contact with external agencies and regulatory authorities (such as the Health and Safety Executive, the regional accident insurance fund, professional fire service, etc.) and coordinate cooperation with occupational health physicians from the external occupational medical service. Furthermore, the Occupational Safety department provides services especially in the areas of training and further education, safety briefings, and the conduct of workplace-related measurements (noise, lighting, indoor climate).

Fire safety officers regularly update emergency plans and emergency telephone numbers for the individual university sites. In addition, they train fire wardens and assist in organising and conducting evacuation drills and safety briefings.

Internal Reporting Office in accordance with the Whistleblower Protection Act (HinSchG)

With the Act to Improve Protection for Whistleblowers (Whistleblower Protection Act – HinSchG – Federal Law Gazette 2023 | No. 140), the German legislator has transposed EU Directive 2019/1937 (EU Whistleblower Directive) into national law.

Hochschule Hannover (HsH) has therefore established an internal reporting office in accordance with Section 12 HinSchG within the Executive Board Office – Internal Audit Unit to enhance whistleblower protection. Reports can be submitted:

  • by telephone,

  • by email to: hinweisgeber-meldestelle(at)hs-hannover.de

  • in writing marked "confidential" to:
Interne Meldestelle c/o Geschäftsstelle des Präsidiums - Stabsstelle Innenrevision, Expo Plaza 4, 30539 Hannover

If you wish to arrange a personal meeting, please feel free to contact us by telephone or email in advance.

The internal reporting office ensures the confidentiality of the identity of:

  • the whistleblower,

  • the person(s) who are the subject of the report, and

  • any other individuals named in the report.

Their identities may only be disclosed to those responsible for receiving reports or taking follow-up actions, as well as to persons supporting them in the performance of these duties. Exceptions are regulated in Section 9 HinSchG. The university will soon offer the option to submit reports anonymously.

Only the following person is authorised to receive reports, provide feedback, and initiate follow-up actions (Section 18 HinSchG):

Viola Hoffmeister

In accordance with Section 17 (1) HinSchG, you will receive an acknowledgement of receipt of your report no later than seven days after submission. Additionally, within three months and seven days, you will be informed in accordance with Section 17 (2) HinSchG about all planned and already implemented follow-up measures, along with the reasons for them.
